Full-time Cook required

  •  We are currently looking to recruit a full-time Cook to join the Maesbrook team.

    42 hours per week

    Rate of pay:
    £12.00 per hour

    Kitchen 02 v2 

    General responsibilities will include:

    • To prepare nutritional breakfast and freshly made smoothies to a high standard, taking special dietary needs into account, also making all freshly made cakes/biscuits.
    • To liaise with nursing staff to achieve maximum levels of nutrition and determine any individual’s special dietary requirements.
    • Order and prep Apetito Meal Menus for serving main meals including dietary levels 4, 5 and 6
    • Ensure the level of cleanliness in the kitchen areas is of the highest standard at all times.
    • To keep records of fridge/freezer temperatures, complete opening and closing checks etc.
    • Observance of Health & Safety requirements with particular regard to maintain a high standard of hygiene at all times in accordance with the appropriate Food Hygiene Regulations
    • To order fresh food and supplies from preferred suppliers
    • To work closely with Manager/Deputy Manger
    • To exercise portion control and minimum wastage as much as is practicably possible.
    • Monitor stock levels and keep appropriate records.
    • To keep records of fridge temperatures, being checked on a regular basis.
    • To use fresh seasonal products and ingredients as much as possible and offer choice
    • Complete all Altura online mandatory training i.e. Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Infection Control, food Hygiene, COSHH etc.
    • To speak to residents and families to ensure we are meeting their needs.


    Experience and skills required:

    • Knowledge of Nutritional Needs in Care
    • Basic Food Hygiene Qualification
    • Knowledge of Environmental Health Regulations
    • A professional attitude at all times
    • Awareness of the need of confidentiality.
    • Reliability, flexibility as to working shifts and tasks allotted and good timekeeping.
    • Calm & even disposition, able to work under stress
    • Ability to delegate
    • Be observant, imaginative and practical
    • Have the ability to conduct oneself in a quiet manner and treat residents with courtesy, respecting their dignity at all times.
