Our Caring Team

Many of our staff have been with us for a number of years, ensuring that our residents are able to develop warm friendships, and relax without worrying about changing faces. And because we invest so heavily in regular and high-quality staff training our team is also extremely well qualified, with dedicated diabetes, palliative care, and IV nurses on staff. Because we also have team members qualified and experienced in both giving and changing catheters, our residents don’t have to face uncomfortable trips to the hospital or surgery. Shirley Dwyer | Registered Home Manager

Shirley started her nursing training at just 18 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, opting for the integrated course and qualifying as an RGN/RSCN. Born and brought up in Shrewsbury, Shirley started working at Maesbrook in 1993 as a Staff Nurse, before moving through the ranks as a Nursing Sister and Deputy Manager until her appointment as the Registered Home Manager in 2012.

Highly trained and skilled, Shirley’s expertise includes:

  • Palliative and End-of-Life Care

  • Tissue Viability

  • Venepuncture

  • Continence Assessor

  • Catheter Training (male and female)

  • Anaphylaxis Training

  • Medication in Social Care

  • Adult Protection Awareness.

Jackie Hoyle | Deputy Home Manager

Having joined Maesbrook in 2006, Jackie’s HR and finance background ensure the operational side of the running of the home is smooth. Born and raised locally, Jackie’s parents were actually the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury in 1982/3! Jackie assists with the running of Maesbrook and also helps the activities co-ordinator organise the larger scale events like our award-winning float at the Shrewsbury Carnival, our Summer and Winter Fayre and other special celebrations.

Highly trained and skilled, Jackie’s expertise includes:

  • Stress Awareness Training

  • Adult Protection Awareness

  • Fire Safety and Fire Marshall Training

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Software.

Barbara Fleet | Events and Activities Co-Ordinator

Born and raised locally, Barbara first started working at Maesbrook in 1980 when it first opened. Moving through the ranks, Barbara’s role involves ensuring a varied and exciting programme of activities and visits to tempt every resident.

Highly trained and skilled, Barbara’s expertise includes:

  • NVQ Level 2 Care Assistant

  • Adult Protection Awareness

  • Complementray Hand and Foot Massage

  • Dressmaking

  • Card and Calendar Making.
